Cubelets Robots for Elementary School STEM Programs
Cubelets are small blocks that are snapped together to make an endless variety of robots with no programming, no small parts to track, and no wires. Engage students in Elementary STEM programs with these fun cubes in kits. Watch as they discover how motion, lights, temperature, sound, and magnets can be used to solve problems and design new inventions. The small magnets on each side of the cube attract to each other. Each cube has its own special function: shining a light, turning, rolling wheels, sensing movement, sensing light, sensing temperature, etc.
They detect each other and communicate with each other, like a flock of birds. Teaching STEM lessons with cubelets gives students a reason to apply knowledge they've already learned, to verbalize it, and to put into practice new vocabulary and literacy skills about engineering, problem solving, science, and technology. Watch this video to see how they work. Learn more about the Curriculum for Cubelets.
Making Robots with Magnets
You don’t need to know how to code or wire to construct robots with Cubelets. Snap the robot blocks together and the magnetic faces do the rest. Every unique arrangement is a new robot with novel behaviors emerging from the construction. Invention is made easy with cubelets. Students just need to combine a battery cube (Power) with input (Sense), compute (Think), and output (Action) cubes. You may recognize this as the fundamental concepts of coding and engineering design.
It is amazing how many things can be built. Add in some Legos (which snap right on with the included lego adapters), and the possibilities are endless. The cubes work with lego blocks to easily add motorization, sensors, and engineering functions to any creative endeavor. Students begin learning what an engineer does, how an engineer solves problems, and the vocabulary of engineering.
What Do The Cubelets Do?
There are three types of blocks: some sense the environment, some think and make decisions, and other cubelets take action.
How Durable are Cubelets?
Cubelets are tough! Sure, you can break them, but it won’t be easy. In addition to passing CPSIA and ASTM toy safety standards, the durability of this product has been tested in classrooms, and teachers tell us that they are impressed with how Cubelets perform over time.Cubelets have been in classrooms, after school programs, makerspaces, and science centers where they’re used repeatedly for hours at a time, and they hold up to exuberant, clumsy, and continuous use. You can also wipe them down with a disinfectant from time to time, although we don’t suggest submerging them in water to clean them!
What Should I Order for My Classroom?
We have put together educational packages which include everything needed for succces in a class of various sizes - including the chargers and extra cubes. These packs are for grade K-5 classrooms or makerspaces to complete engineering challenge lessons or encourage creative problem solving. We've described them below and you will find links to them under their pictures to the right. If you have any difficulty choosing, feel free to call us for a custom quote. Which Cubelet Package should I order?
We recommend either the 12 pack or the 20 pack for home use. Those packs provide enough cubes to engage children for hours, especially if they already have some lego blocks to add to them. Click the Pricing button below for more information. But if all you can afford is the 6 pack, they can still build 10 to 12 robots with just those cubes, and add motion to their legos creations. Click here for a video on what you can build with just 3 cubes.
We recommend the education packs for schools, libraries, clubs, and museums. Those packs provide enough blocks to set up stations for teams of students to be inventive.
